About Semmelweis University:

The oldest medical school in Hungary, Semmelweis University, has 250 years of experience in training doctors and medical professionals for their careers. Established in 1752, Hungary’s legendary Empress Maria Theresa herself founded the university Medical Faculty. Today, the university has a unique status in Hungary, providing the country with a high proportion of the country's medically-trained personnel. Hungarian medical degrees are recognised all over the European Union, but Semmelweis graduates have also gone on to have successful careers outside of Europe, using their knowledge to pass local licensing exams in their chosen country. Semmelweis University is named for Ignaz Semmelweis, a former professor of the university who discovered the cause of childbed fever. The university runs German and English language programmes across disciplines. Around a quarter of students at Semmelweis are from outside of Hungary, coming from five different continents and over 170 countries. Instead of being based on a single campus, Semmelweis has hospitals and facilities all over Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Over forty patient care clinics are attached to the university. The city of Budapest is an exciting blend of Art Nouveau architecture, Turkish bathhouses and modern shops and eateries. At the heart of it all the beautiful Danube River winds through the city streets.
