The University of Göttingen(GAU) is a public research university in the city of Göttingen, Germany. Founded in 1734 by George II and starting classes in 1737, the university is the oldest in the state of Lower Saxony. The University of Göttingen now encompasses 13 faculties and a total of 47 additional centers and institutes, spread out in several locations around the city.
