The Nanyang Technological University is a young research-intensive university with a rapidly growing reputation. It has over 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and is organized into eight colleges and schools: the Colleges of Engineering, Science, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the Nanyang Business School, and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (the latter is a joint venture with Imperial College London).
Its large main campus spreads across 490 acres and has been named one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. NTU has two other campuses, in Novena and at the One-North business park. Founded in 1955, prior to Singapore’s independence from the British, NTU has since grown into a major educational force to be reckoned with thanks to a series of mergers with neighboring institutions.
The university is a melting pot of international award-winning scientists, young talents and eminent global partners such as BMW, Rolls-Royce and Lockheed Martin.
It also houses several world-class national institutes: the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centers such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute, Energy Research Institute @NTU and the Institute on Asian Consumer Insight.
The main campus comprises 24 halls of residence, each housing at least 500 students, making for a huge residential complex where 14,000 students live, socialize and study.
Living on campus gives students ample chance to make friends and discover new passions. Campus life is an exciting adventure where students with more than 100 nationalities can exchange ideas and find common interests. This could happen through academic study, but also through the many societies and events organized for and by students.
There really is something to suit all interests at NTU, whether it’s arts and cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts or singing competitions, cross-country running through woodlands, or volunteering opportunities.
